Founded on Principle
In 2003, founding partner Richard A. Vanguard left a high-paying position at one of Chicago's largest corporate firms with a single conviction: great legal representation should not be reserved for corporations and the ultra-wealthy. He opened Vanguard Legal Group in a modest two-room office on North Clark Street with two associates and a determination to level the playing field.
His first major case — a wrongful termination claim against a Fortune 500 employer — resulted in a $1.2M settlement for a factory worker who had been told his case was unwinnable. That outcome set the tone for everything that followed.
Today, Vanguard Legal Group occupies a full floor at 321 N. Clark Street, employs five partner-level attorneys, and has recovered over $50 million for clients across Illinois. The firm's core commitment has never wavered: every client deserves the absolute best their attorney can give.
